Returning to work in STEM

Returning to work in STEM

Our programme kicked off in great style, with a one-day workshop for over 30 women at Edinburgh Napier University Craiglockhart Campus on 9 May 2017. The workshop included:

  • An overview of the Programme, including career clinic and placement details
  • An introduction to The Open University ‘Returning to STEM’ online course
  • Completion of career and CV development activities
  • Meeting the programme team from Equate Scotland and The Open University

Feedback confirmed that attendees:

  • agreed the Programme would help them return to employment,
  • intended to complete the online Open University course
  • felt more confident about returning to work
  • were almost all new connections for Equate

Specific comments included:

‘The help and support available has made me feel excited about the future. Meeting the other attendees…I realise now that I am not alone’

‘It made me think about the times when I’ve really enjoyed my previous roles, so making it clearer where I should be focusing my future employment goals.’

‘When I got back home, I actually applied for a job I was not too confident about previously.’

By the end of the workshop, our talent pool of 40 women returners was full. To apply to join our programme waiting list, complete the online registration form on our website.

We are continuing to recruit partner employers to offer paid placement opportunities to our talent pool of women. We are especially interested in the Science, Technology and Built Environment sectors. Contact Programme lead, Lesley Macniven (l.macniven@napier.ac.uk), if your organisation is interested in finding out more.
