Unconscious Bias Workshop
International Women in Engineering Day 2017
Date and time: 23rd June 2017 – Workshop at 12pm and Main Event at 1.30pm.
Location: Hannah Maclure Centre, Abertay Student Centre (top floor)
Facilitated by Allison Johnstone – Equate Scotland Training and Development Manager.
Despite our best efforts, do we act and react in a biased way?
In this workshop you will explore the concept of unconscious bias as well as your own experience of this phenomenon. You will also consider how we all can do our best to ensure that our judgments are as rational and free of bias as possible.
This workshop supports participants to reflect on the unconscious biases that we all hold and the assumptions we sometimes make. It explores how these may impact on our interactions and decision-making processes, and strategies for recognising and counteracting bias in the workplace. This session is relevant for all staff and genders.
In this session you will learn:
- How and why we make choices/decisions about people we meet
- The role of unconscious bias and cultural influence in how we make judgements and decisions more widely
- Where and how bias impacts on the workplace
- Recognising and counteracting bias
This workshop is a part of the International Women in Engineering Day 2017 at the Abertay University. You can register for the main event here.
