Interconnect Student Network
Interconnect is the only network for women studying science, engineering, technology and built environment at Scotland’s Colleges and Universities.
We give students the opportunity to meet like-minded women studying similar subjects. This reduces the isolation they can feel being in a minority on their course. Interconnect also organises events which allow students to network with professional women working in their chosen field.
In conjunction with students, employers and institutions, we run Interconnect events across Scotland to:
- provide an insight into industry through workplace visits which enable students to see what it is like working in their chosen field
- enable students to build links with industry and understand what skills and experience employers are looking for
- bring students together to network with women professionals as role models
- develop students’ skills and enhance their CV’s
‘Meet the Professionals’ Networking Lunches
“Being in contact with women from industry and being able to ask them questions about work makes me feel more confident with my choice of career.”
These networking lunches bring together women students with qualified women working in a specific sector of academia and industry. This is a great opportunity to practise your networking skills in a friendly environment, make some new contacts and find out about the range of careers associated with your subject area.
‘Industry Insight’ Events
“This event gave me a greater understanding of how my degree can be applied in industry and the opportunities available to me.”
These events are fantastic opportunities for students to get behind the scenes of an employer and work out if it’s the right one for them.
These visits involve a tour of the premises or site, presentations about what the company does and what they can offer to graduates. This is a great chance to meet staff in a range of roles including recent graduates, get a feel for different working environments and learn about careers relevant to your subject.
‘What Employers Want’ Workshops
“This event has definitely made me less nervous about applying for jobs and attending interviews.”
These events are facilitated by graduate employers and offer an excellent insight to the recruitment process and what employers are looking for in prospective employees.
This is a great way to meet other women hoping to enter the same industry as you; learn how to make your job applications stand out; find out how to evidence your skills at assessment centres and get some handy interview tips.
